The Edward M. Kennedy Center (EMK Center) is hosting a competition for organizations, individuals, and groups to submit proposals for projects that strengthen and celebrate the relationship between the United States and Bangladesh, promote innovative ideas, and address complex social issues with local solutions. The deadline for submitting proposals is January 14, 2023. Projects must begin by March 1, 2023 and be completed by September 30, 2023.

Proposals should align with the themes outlined by the EMK Center and applicants are encouraged to review the U.S. Mission to Bangladesh Integrated Country Strategy to ensure their proposal aligns with the priorities of the U.S. government in Bangladesh. The EMK Center will announce the finalists for the next steps in the review process.

 

The project proposals for 2023 will focus on the following themes:

  1. Strengthening democratic values by promoting human rights, freedom of expression, and disability rights.
  2. Encouraging inclusive economic growth through innovation and entrepreneurship, and creating economic opportunities for women and underserved communities.
  3. Supporting innovative community-based solutions to environmental challenges and raising awareness among young people about the impacts of climate change.
  4. Providing more opportunities for Bangladeshi youth from marginalized communities (e.g. indigenous people, religious minorities, etc.).
  5. Fostering the arts and culture sector by supporting emerging and marginalized artists, showcasing local heritage and talents.

 Timeline 

The application period for the project proposals will run from December 14, 2022 to January 14, 2023. The EMK Center will announce the selected projects on February 14, 2023.

Eligibility

Applications will be accepted from individuals, groups, and non-profit organizations. Profitable entities will not be eligible to apply.

The following entities are eligible to submit proposals:

  • Non-profit organizations, projects, entities, public service centers, cultural organizations, community-based organizations, and organizations registered under The Trust Act 1882/ Society Registration Act 1860.
  • Foundations registered under Section 28 of the Companies Act, 1994 and established for financing Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs)
  • Clubs registered under any public or private university or any government authority that work for non-profit
  • Individuals and groups may also submit their ideas and applications, but must demonstrate the necessary experience and capacity to manage projects.

Minimum Required Documents:

  • For individuals: National ID copy, TIN certificate, CV/resume, certification from previous donor organization (if applicable)
  • For groups: National ID copies, TIN certificates, CVs/resumes, certifications from previous donor organization (if applicable) for each member
  • For organizations: organization registration certificate/incorporation certificate, latest trade license, Form XII, memorandum of association (MOA), BIN certificate, TIN certificate, organization portfolio, certification from previous donor organization (if applicable), bank certificate/check copy.

Important Instructions:

  • The application deadline is 11:59 PM on January 14, 2023.
  • Only online applications will be reviewed. Hard-copy submissions will not be accepted.
  • Applications received after the deadline will not be reviewed.
  • The project completion timeline is 6 months, from March to September 2023.
  • The budget range for proposals is BDT 500,000 – BDT 10,00,000.
